Summary

Join IXL Learning's content development team as a remote, 1099 consultant for three months (with possible extension) to create engaging educational materials. You will write stories, questions, and answer keys for grades 3-5 multi-subject workbooks and reading comprehension worksheets for Education.com (grades 3-8). The role requires exceptional writing skills, attention to detail, and a strong understanding of student reading levels. A BA/BS degree is preferred, along with experience writing for upper elementary school audiences. Your application should include a resume, cover letter, and writing sample.

Requirements

• BA/BS degree, preferably in English, creative writing, or a related field
• Exceptional writing skills, including a finely tuned sense of English grammar and usage
• Clear, engaging writing style
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to come up with creative, engaging, and appropriate story topics
• Strong understanding of students’ reading and knowledge levels in grades K-12
• Ability to be efficient and organized while working on multiple projects simultaneously

Responsibilities

• Write stories and other short pieces of text for language arts workbooks and worksheets
• Write educational questions, answer keys, and sample responses based on those pieces of text
• Adhere to conventions in The Chicago Manual of Style and an in-house style guide
• Ensure that content is the appropriate length and reading level for the given task
• Accept and implement feedback

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise in language arts content development for grades K-5
• Previous freelance writing experience
