Summary
Join IXL Learning's content development team as a remote, 1099 consultant for three months (with possible extension) to create engaging language arts passages for PKβ12 assessments. You will collaborate with editors and curriculum designers. This role involves researching topics appealing to school-aged audiences, sourcing passages, writing assessment items, crafting questions and explanations, and adhering to style guides. The position requires a BA/BS degree (preferably in English or a related field) and experience developing K-12 English language arts problems. Exceptional writing skills and strong critical-thinking abilities are essential. The application process includes submitting a resume, cover letter, and writing sample.
Requirements
- BA/BS degree, preferably in English, creative writing, or a related field
- Experience developing English language arts K-12 problems to meet specified educational objectives
- Exceptional writing skills, including a finely tuned sense of English grammar and usage

- The ability to be efficient and organized while working on multiple projects

Responsibilities
- Research informational topics that would interest a school-aged audience
- Source passages from texts for use in online activities and assessments
- Write sentences, paragraphs, and longer passages for use in online activities and assessments
- Craft questions, answers, and explanations based on guidelines and samples
- Adhere to conventions in The Chicago Manual of Style and an in-house style guide
- Accept and implement feedback

Experience writing English language arts Kβ12 content for large-scale summative, interim, and formative assessments
