Summary
Join CRB as an Energy and Sustainability Strategist, focusing on decarbonization and sustainability strategies for the built environment. You will manage multiple complex tasks, coordinate with stakeholders, and direct the work of others. Responsibilities include energy master planning, carbon reduction strategies, and renewable energy assessments. You will act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing guidance to other strategists and developing standard methods. This role involves project management, business development, client interaction, and mentorship. Remote work is considered.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field
- Minimum of 15 years of experience
- Minimum of 10 years experience in sustainability in the built environment
- Accredited professional in a relevant sustainability rating system (e.g., LEED AP, WELL AP, ILFI LFA, PHIUS CPHC)
- Experience with the LEED Building rating system
- Proficient in cross-discipline project team coordination
- Understanding of building energy and water systems
- Expert experience with sustainability analysis, carbon accounting, and/or energy modeling
- Demonstrated history of building and maintaining strong, long-lasting client relationships
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Advanced experience conducting and leading field surveys and performance assessments
- Advanced knowledge of building electrification, renewable energy systems, and decarbonization strategies
Responsibilities
- Directs and manages the workflows and execution of sustainability and energy professionals (Entry-Level to Senior) to meet client expectations and project goals
- Coordinates with internal and external parties, manages multiple complex tasks, establishes priorities, and directs the work of others
- Understanding of a building mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and architectural systems and identification of opportunities to incorporate energy and sustainability
- Advocacy for decarbonization and sustainability to internal and external team members
- Acts as Project Manager including proposal development, strategy identification, man-hour planning, and project scheduling for the discipline scope of work on advanced-level projects
- Supports CRB’s Seller – Doer model and performs business development activities
- Conduct client facing charettes and workshops to assist in sustainability goal setting
- Attends external seminars/conferences for professional development
- Develops internal sustainability and energy training presentations
- Develops narratives, reports, and decarbonization roadmaps and writes technical documentation for complex projects without oversight
- Provides advanced support of construction and operational activities such as commissioning, measurement and verification (M&V), post-occupancy evaluations, and performance benchmarking
- Conducts technical and leadership interviews
- Conducts quality checking of documents for advanced complex sustainability projects and drives overall project quality
- Provides mentorship to less experienced Energy and Sustainability Strategists
- Leads advanced project sustainability programming and master planning with minimal or no support from senior leadership
- Delivers high quality sustainability projects incorporating advanced solutions across project goals related to energy, decarbonization, water, waste, embodied carbon, material health, and others
- Provides oversight and technical leadership to other offices and related functions such as Business Development, Technical Advancement, and Vertical Markets
- Provides industry-level perspective and guidance to frame business strategy in the face of evolving technology and policy landscapes
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related field
- Professional certification or licensure in a related field (e.g., PE, CEM, BEMP, CPHD, etc.)
- Understanding of ESG commitments and Scope 1, 2, and 3 frameworks
- Experience with embodied carbon in the built environment including tools such as One Click LCA
- Experience in Life Sciences (Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Laboratory) or Food & Beverage industry projects
- Experience with advanced energy and sustainability technology applications in R&D labs, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and/or consumer products
