Summary
Join Moniepoint, a rapidly growing financial services platform in Africa, as the Engineering Lead. You will be responsible for overseeing the technical landscape of the engineering organization, guiding and leading engineering teams, and ensuring the development of scalable, secure, and innovative architectures. You will work closely with business leaders and engineering managers to align technical vision with business goals and ensure a smooth pipeline from coding to deployment. This hands-on role requires leadership, technical expertise, and operational excellence. You will be accountable for setting technical standards, addressing technical debt, mentoring teams, and ensuring the scalability and security of the product's architecture. You will also oversee team development, recruitment, and performance management to build high-performing teams.
Requirements
- At least 8 - 10 years of experience in software development, with at least 5 years of leadership experience managing engineering teams
- Strong experience with backend technologies (experience with frontend is a plus)
- Expertise in setting up and maintaining deployment pipelines, CI/CD, and managing tech debt
- Ability to drive alignment across engineering and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with agile methodologies, sprint planning, and managing technical resources efficiently
- Proven track record in mentoring, performance management, and developing high-performing teams
- A BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 4-5 years of leading engineering teams with a proven track record of building and scaling high-performance teams
- Strong technical experience, including hands-on coding and a solid understanding of software development
- Proven ability to foster collaboration, trust, and transparency across diverse teams
- Experience owning and overseeing system architecture for large-scale, secure, and scalable platforms
- Ability to mentor, recruit, and grow engineering talent in an environment that prioritizes continuous learning
Responsibilities
- Provide overall technical leadership across engineering teams
- Work closely with business leads to align OKRs with business goals
- Own the architecture across the product line, ensuring it is scalable, secure, and aligned with best practices
- Oversee the end-to-end pipeline from coding to deployment
- Ensure it is clear and updated so EMs can focus on their tasks
- Develop a technology roadmap for the teams ensuring scalability, reliability, redundancy and optimal performance
- Proactively identify and address technical debt to ensure long-term system health
- Lead and mentor EMs and engineers, helping them grow professionally and personally
- Recruit, hire, and set clear performance expectations
- Foster a culture of operational excellence, ensuring all services are well monitored and aligned with defined SLIs/SLOs
- Maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and alignment between engineering and business teams
- Collaborate with tooling/infrastructure teams and ensure you have a solid understanding of DevOps processes, tooling, and infrastructure
- Drive and uphold engineering standards, ensuring continuous improvement and consistent quality
