You will lead the design, implementation, and management of cloud-based and managed service environments for Smile's innovative health data platform. This role focuses on scalability, security, automation, and operational excellence, ensuring seamless deployment and integration into diverse customer environments. You will drive DevOps best practices, oversee complex cloud projects, and provide technical guidance to the engineering team.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in a DevOps Engineer project lead role or similar software engineering role with at least 3+ years in a lead role overseeing multi-cloud environments
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple projects and priorities
  • Expertise in cloud-native tools and services (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI) with a strong focus on SaaS and Managed Services based implementations and management
  • Proficiency in Python is essential along with good knowledge of Java Applications
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools including but not limited to Azure DevOps, Jenkins Gitlab CI. Experience with GitOps tools such as ArgoCD and Flux is beneficial
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, AWS Cloudformation and Azure ARM Templates. Using Infrastructure provisioning SDKs is a bonus
  • String knowledge in containerization and orchestration tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, Kops and Helm
  • Understanding and experience with security best practices in the cloud and for platform security including identity management, secrets and management and compliance frameworks
  • Experience with implementing product and service QA testing in deployment stages
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/ EFK stack and Opentelemetry) for proactive system management

Responsibilities

  • Build, develop, and deploy scripts and infrastructure as code for Smile Digital Health and associated services and teams
  • Implement infrastructure monitoring, logging and alerting across solutions to improve visibility into system health and performance
  • Develop and maintain software deployment strategies that are essential for the successful deployment of software in the environment by identifying and implementing data storage methods such as clustering to improve the performance of the team
  • Optimize cost and resource utilization across multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure) for customer-hosted and managed service deployments
  • Maintain build and deployment pipelines to ensure quality delivery of software and infrastructure
  • Review and consult on assessments, building, testing and deployment of business continuity and IT disaster recovery plan related to DevOps pipeline
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timelines and deliverables are met
  • Investigate and resolve any customer integration issues that arise during implementation
  • Support the development of DevOps team members and coach and mentor new hires
  • Foster DevOps culture and champion an โ€˜Everything as Codeโ€™ approach, foster a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
  • Document best practices and lessons learned to drive continuous improvement
  • Establish technical relationships with our development teams
  • Design, implement and maintain a secure and scalable infrastructure templates and deployment pipelines
  • Provide ongoing maintenance and support of internal tools infrastructure and improve system health and reliability
  • Maintain thorough documentation on the development pipeline
  • Assist developers and engineers with deployments and builds as needed
  • Enforce DevSecOps principles and integrate security into all stages of the DevOps lifecycle
  • Lead incident response efforts for relevant solutions and assist in developing Root Cause Analysis and post mortems as required
  • Collaborate with managed services engineers and program managers to ensure SLAs are met for uptime, performance and security
  • Accountable for ensuring that all working hours are accurately reported in Netsuite on a daily or weekly basis, that the majority of (if not all) hours are tracked as billable and that the project management tool in Netsuite is properly and fully utilized
  • Tracking and reporting of billable hours is a critical aspect of project management and delivery to our customers and this is a major area of accountability
  • Comply with the privacy, security and confidentiality policies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Kafka for real-time data streaming, and exposure to FHIR standards in healthcare data management
  • Able to prioritize and track multiple projects in parallel
  • Highly responsive and have a customer-first mindset
  • Knowledge of cloud service providers and best practices around implementation and configuration, preferably managing customer environments is nice to have but not required
  • Knowledge of operating and maintaining production systems in Linux and public cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, GCP or OCI is an asset but not required
  • An understanding of Kubernetes or other Docker orchestration tools is nice to have but not required
