You will review project documentation, prepare cost estimates and quotations, manage quantity take-offs, and collaborate with operations and clients. The ideal candidate possesses a qualification in mechanical engineering, construction management, or a trade-based background, along with at least 3 years of estimating experience (preferably in metal fabrication or industrial construction). Responsibilities include preparing detailed cost estimates, submitting tenders, conducting quantity take-offs, and managing project-specific teams. Requirements
- Qualification in mechanical engineering, construction management, or trade-based background
- Minimum 3 yearsβ experience in estimating (preferably in metal fabrication or industrial construction)
- Familiarity with fabrication drawings, materials, and trade practices
- Review tender documents
- Manage quantity take-off process and prepare Bill of Quantities as required
- Oversee project specific teams and lead complex tender bids
Responsibilities
- Review project documentation, specifications, and drawings to prepare detailed cost estimates
- Prepare and submit quotations, tenders, and pricing schedules to clients as per submission deadlines
- Conduct quantity take-offs and apply accurate labour and material rates
- Ensure cost estimates achieve target gross profit margins
- Maintain and apply standard costing methodologies and ensure all estimates align with company procedures
- Collaborate with Operations to confirm scope clarity, methodology, and feasibility of quoted works
- Provide a comprehensive handover of successful tenders to operations, including inclusions/exclusions, assumptions, supplier quotes, and agreed margins
- Support the operations team on variation pricing and project cost control throughout the life of a project
- Maintain strong working relationships with key clients, subcontractors, and suppliers
- Liaise with suppliers to obtain accurate and competitive material and subcontractor pricing
- Follow up all tenders to confirm receipt and maximise conversion rate (<33% conversion target)
- Identify and flag any commercial risks, pricing discrepancies, or value engineering opportunities
- Ensure compliance with specifications, industry standards, laws, and regulations
- Monitor and track performance metrics for estimating and margin management
- Maintain accurate estimating files, quote registers, and margin trackers
- Ensure documentation and submissions are complete, well-presented, and professionally compiled
- Keep estimation database and supplier pricing up to date
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a site-based or manufacturing environment (advantageous)
- Knowledge in Australian Standards
