Summary
Join NPR's Office of the General Counsel as a legal extern for a summer externship running from June 2nd, 2025 to August 22nd, 2025. This remote-permitted role, based in Washington, DC, offers substantive experience in various legal areas. Legal externs will conduct legal research, draft documents, and participate in client meetings and trainings. Applicants must be current law students from an accredited program. Preferred qualifications include relevant experience, strong academic credentials, and interest in media, technology, or non-profit fields. The externship provides either course credit or a school-sponsored stipend.
Requirements
- Be a current student in an accredited law school program (1L, 2L, 3L, or LLM)
- Have authorization to work in the United States
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda, contracts, and other legal documents
- Participate in client meetings, trainings, legislative and regulatory meetings, and other “outside-the-library” projects, such as observing legal proceedings and attending legal training sessions offered through the District of Columbia Bar Association or other local organizations
Preferred Qualifications
- Have relevant background experience
- Have interest in the OGC practice areas
- Have strong academic credentials
- Possess strong legal research and writing skills
- Demonstrate interest in the media, technology, and/or non-profit fields, such as participation in relevant school activities and clinics and prior legal and/or non-legal positions in applicable industries
