How To MANAGE a Small Law Firm
Summary
Join a team of Fractional Executives as a Fractional Controller and help solo law firm owners achieve financial clarity and build profitable systems. You will work with up to 45 clients, providing financial structure, education, and accountability. Responsibilities include leading monthly financial coaching calls, conducting deep-dive financial report reviews, teaching clients to use reports for decision-making, preparing cash flow forecasts, holding clients accountable for goals, hosting group Q&A calls, tracking client progress, and collaborating with the team. The ideal candidate possesses prior experience as a Controller or in a senior accounting/finance role, preferably in a small business or entrepreneurial setting. This is a remote, full-time position with flexible hours and occasional travel.
Requirements
- Prior experience as a Controller or in a Senior accounting/finance role (small biz or Entreprenurial setting preferred)
- Experience tracking and analyzing key business metrics
- Created dashboards to visualize data and support decision-making
- Increased cash liquidity
- Decreased operating expenses
- Saved the company money or improved profitability
- Demonstrated progressive growth in your roles over time
- Managed people, teams, or client relationships
- Handled cross-functional responsibilities beyond accounting, such as: HR processes
- Legal liaison duties
- Operations support
- Experience working in or supporting a family business, your spouse’s business, or running your own entrepreneurial venture
- Served on an advisory board or similar strategic committee
- Experience in roles where you were managing people
Responsibilities
- Lead monthly 1:1 financial coaching calls with your assigned law firm clients
- Conduct deep-dive reviews of financial reports, helping clients master the 7 key financial statements
- Teach clients how to use those reports to drive decisions and profitability
- Prepare short-term cash flow forecasts to spot cash crunches before they hit
- Hold clients accountable for their goals—and coach them through resistance
- Host group Q&A calls, answer client questions, and contribute to team-wide knowledge sharing
- Track client progress, document insights, and collaborate with your team
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in accounting or finance functions in an entrepreneurial or start-up, small business setting. Any experience within a law firm or professional services company is a plus
