Summary

Join yes. every kid. as a Government Affairs Director and oversee efforts in key states, developing and implementing strategies to advance the organization's vision. You will develop and execute state government affairs strategies, hire and manage contract lobbyists, build relationships with stakeholders, and collaborate with internal and external partners. The role involves directing public affairs campaigns, managing budgets, ensuring compliance, and traveling up to 50% of the time. The ideal candidate has experience in government affairs, lobbying, or legislative advocacy, along with familiarity with the legislative process and policymaking. The position is remote with an optional in-person office in Arlington, VA.

Requirements

  • Experience in government affairs, lobbying, government relations, or managing legislative advocacy campaigns
  • Familiarity with the legislative process, political structures, and policymaking
  • Demonstrated experience bringing an idea from formation to fruition in the public policy space
  • Ability to comprehend and engage with policy concepts and legislative language
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, remote environment
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, depending on need
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator, strong attention to detail, and high professionalism
  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a multi-session state government affairs strategy to advance policies that increase education freedom and achieve business objectives in assigned jurisdictions
  • Hire and directly manage contract lobbyists
  • Identify and build relationships with policy champions, policymakers, and key stakeholders
  • Collaborate with internal team members and external partners
  • Direct and engage in public affairs campaigns including, but not limited to, lobbying, legislative advocacy, market research, implementation of programs, policy development, and coalition management
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of spending to deliver strong returns on investment
  • Ensure 100% compliance and record keeping with all relevant state laws, including, but not limited to, rules and lobbying registration and reporting requirements

  • Relationships with state policymakers
  • Experience in education policy
  • Supervisory experience
