Summary

Join Walden University's Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services (OASIS) as a Graduate Assistant โ€“ Qualitative Concepts Tutor! This virtual, part-time (10 hours/week) position supports doctoral students by providing tutoring in qualitative research concepts and NVivo software. You will deliver tutoring through individual appointments, small group sessions, or e-tutoring. Responsibilities include providing instruction, corresponding with students, contributing to program initiatives, and attending training. The position requires demonstrated NVivo experience, strong communication and analytical skills, and current enrollment in a Walden doctoral program. Successful candidates will have completed specific Walden doctoral courses in qualitative research.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience with NVivo and familiarity with Office 365 suite of programs
  • Superb analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Strong writing skills for corresponding with students via the Centerโ€™s e-mail role accounts in clear, grammatically correct replies written in a professional tone
  • Must be a current Walden student enrolled in a doctoral program at Walden University
  • Demonstrated expertise and completed graduate-level qualitative research and advanced qualitative research coursework required. Coursework must include successful completion of the following Walden doctoral courses: Qualitative Reasoning & Analysis (8310) and Advanced Qualitative Reasoning & Analysis (RSCH 8360)
  • Superb knowledge of graduate-level qualitative research principles, core methodological elements, and using NVivo software
  • Ability to provide positive, constructive feedback to adult students in conversation and writing
  • Demonstrate that she/he/they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities

Responsibilities

  • Provide instructional tutoring to students in qualitative concepts via WC Online (the online schedule) and Zoom
  • Correspond with students in a professional and positive manner via the Officeโ€™s e-mail role accounts
  • Contribute to ongoing Tutoring Program initiatives related to qualitative research resources, short video tutorials, instructional documents, and consistent attendance at regular team meetings
  • Commit approximately 40 hours per month (10 hours per week) to this role, including evenings and weekends, to serve the needs of a global student body
  • Attend and complete program training and specialized ongoing tutor and content training throughout position tenure

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years demonstrated work experience utilizing NVivo on a regular basis preferred
  • Experience teaching or learning in online learning management systems preferred
  • Experience with additional analytical software preferred
  • Ability to adapt to all levels of learners, and approach students with different learning strategies to help them develop their qualitative research and NVivo software skills
