Graphics Editor

Summary

Join ProPublica, an independent, nonprofit newsroom, as a Graphics Editor to create impactful information graphics for investigative journalism. Collaborate with award-winning journalists to design charts, maps, and interactive data visualizations. Your work will range from static designs to interactive features, showcasing your skills in data visualization and web development. You'll be part of a dynamic newsroom where visual storytelling is key. Requirements

• Experience designing and developing polished data visualizations from scratch, using tools such as Datawrapper, Illustrator or D3.js
• Fluency in web development, including HTML/CSS and Javascript
• An understanding of good design principles and how to design for clarity and impact
• Experience with data, such as cleaning or analyzing data with tools such as Excel, Python or R
• A love for details and making things
• A deep desire to work on important accountability stories and an eagerness to help dig for the truth to help spur reform
• A talent for translating complex topics clearly and compellingly to our audience
• An ability to work on several projects at once. You’ll need to stay organized and focused
• Eligibility to work in the U.S

Responsibilities

• Create information graphics for stories
• Work closely with journalists to pitch, conceptualize, design, and build charts, maps, and data visualizations
• Design static charts and maps
• Build interactive features
• Experiment with innovative forms of visualizations
• Report to the graphics director
• Collaborate with members of other departments, including visuals, video, news apps, and product, as well as reporters and story editors

Preferred Qualifications

Familiarity with the command line and git
