Join Scribd's Core Infrastructure team as an Infrastructure Engineer and contribute to the foundation of our platform used by 250+ million people monthly. Requirements
- 3+ years of production infrastructure engineering and site reliability experience
- Ability to read and write code in one or more languages including Python, Ruby, Go, and/or Bash code
- Experience with Docker, AWSECS, and/or Kubernetes
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Software development background
- Familiarity with git and common software development practices
- Ability to write tests
- Capable of reading and understanding the code in order to participate in the code review process
- Ability to lead deep technical design discussions within your team, and across partner teams
- Experience with infrastructure as code tools (ex .Terraform) and thoughts about their respective strengths and weaknesses
- Ability to participate in technical design discussions within your team, and across partner teams
Responsibilities
- Be part of the team managing the existing AWS Cloud Environment while helping service owners adjust to a new AWS-centric model
- Help in the shift from a traditional operations organization into a services organization that provides key components to our backend technology stack such as container orchestration infrastructure, logging services, monitoring and alerting patterns, caching layers, and relational/non-relational clustered data storage
- Educate developers and help delegate traditional operational responsibilities to teams that are already taking an increased level of ownership of their production environment
- Share your experience and good judgment to help these teams scale their services operationally for years to come
- Help build and operate a modern service-oriented AWS infrastructure and maintain uptime for a product used by 250+ million people every month
- Influence the future and direction of our infrastructure to improve the performance and observability into the health of our services
Preferred Qualifications
- An infrastructure engineering passion and desire to write automation to reduce toil and scale non-linearly
- History of building predictable, fault-tolerant distributed systems
- A strong understanding of AWS platform services and their strengths/weaknesses
- Experience working to improve 24/7 on-call rotations, reducing alert fatigue, and improving automation
- An appetite to learn and grow professionally
- Mentoring skills: experience with training and educating teammates or colleagues on contemporary operational best practices
