Junior Software Developer, DevOps

Summary

Join Hootsuite as a Junior Software Developer, DevOps and contribute to delivering reliable, efficient, and safe value to customers. You will support the team managing production application environments and developer experience, working remotely or in a hybrid model in British Columbia, Alberta, or Ontario. This role involves writing software, building and maintaining infrastructure, researching new technologies, and operating development and production environments. You will diagnose and repair systems, perform maintenance and upgrades, and improve efficiency. The position requires entry-level experience in SRE, DevOps, or software engineering, along with software development skills and experience with infrastructure-as-code tools. Collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential.

Requirements

• Entry level experience working in an SRE, DevOps or software engineering role
• An ability to write software and working knowledge of software engineering practice
• Experience using infrastructure-as-code tools to build and run cloud infrastructure
• Experience working on fast-paced Agile teams and continuously evolving environments

Responsibilities

• Write software - tools, libraries, automation, services
• Build and maintain our infrastructure platform
• Implement new platform features
• Assist in the research and evaluation of new technologies
• Refactor, rewrite or retire existing platform features
• Operate our developer experience and production application environments
• Diagnose and repair our distributed systems
• Perform maintenance, upgrades, and migrations
• Control or eliminate repetitive tasks, alert noise, and business-as-usual work
• Enable development teams
• Provide executable interfaces to our infrastructure platform
• Provide tools and best practices to support the entire software development lifecycle
• Communicate by writing documentation, participating in meetings, and showing off your work at demos

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of Linux systems administration, including troubleshooting system-level issues, networking (L3-L7) and basic monitoring
• Experience with operating, building and maintaining cloud infrastructure
• An understanding of SaaS software development practice; ideally you have experience working on a SaaS product
