Summary

Join ZipRecruiter's Economic Research team as a Labor Economist and contribute to groundbreaking research on labor market trends. This high-impact, part-time (6-month) role involves conducting original research using public and proprietary data, analyzing labor market trends through econometric modeling, and effectively communicating insights to diverse audiences via media interviews and presentations. Success in this role may lead to a full-time management opportunity. The ideal candidate is media-savvy, data-driven, and comfortable working independently and collaboratively. ZipRecruiter offers a hybrid work environment, with most US-based positions eligible for remote work.

Requirements

  • A graduate degree in economics, public policy, or other highly quantitative field
  • Proven track record with statistical and economic analysis
  • Proven record of clear and effective public speaking, including on-camera media interviews
  • Knowledge of econometrics and multivariate statistics and proven research ability applying these skills
  • Experience with Stata or R, and preferably also Python
  • Experience with data access and manipulation tools such as SQL
  • Experience preparing working papers and reports

Responsibilities

  • Work on all aspects of original research projects on job search, hiring, and labor market trends using public data (e.g., BLS CPS, CES, OES) and ZipRecruiter’s proprietary marketplace data
  • Analyze and interpret labor market data through econometric modeling, data visualization, and storytelling to generate actionable insights
  • Serve as a key voice for ZipRecruiter Economic Research, publishing research and turning complex data & trends into easy-to-understand takeaways for media, business leaders, and external audiences
  • Think on your feet to navigate media interviews on a wide range of topics, turning complex data into catchy soundbites for any questions thrown your way
  • Present insights and trends to employers, job seekers, clients, and industry partners, delivering compelling talks on the future of work and ZipRecruiter’s data-driven findings
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with PR, Marketing, Enterprise, and Data Science teams to develop research ideas, identify key data sources, and structure analyses to power thought leadership, media commentary, and industry reports

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. ideal, but not required
  • Experience in Labor Economics is ideal, but not required
  • Experience working with journalists, think tanks, and government agencies is a plus
