Summary

Join Xero's dedicated mobile app team as a Lead Engineer, focusing on the signup flow, in-app subscriptions, and purchases. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across Australia and New Zealand, including iOS, Android, and Backend engineers, designers, marketers, and product specialists. Drive delivery by ensuring clear engineering paths, identifying blockers, and working with cross-functional teams to design, prototype, and implement product features. You will be involved in the entire product lifecycle, from early requirements to production launch, and provide technical guidance and mentorship to fellow developers. Stay up-to-date with mobile development technologies and incorporate them into the team's work. Lead architectural and implementation decisions, ensuring team products meet Xero's engineering standards.

Requirements

  • A technical fluency in either native iOS, Android, or Backend (preferably C#) is essential, and an appetite to understand and learn the rest of the stacks is beneficial
  • Ability to make code design decisions for all teams’ products, and lead or facilitate discussions on application design
  • You'll be able to ensure team products meet Xero's various engineering standards
  • Experience in auditing teams codebases, aiming to maintain high standards for security, testability, and ability to make changes easily
  • Proven leadership capabilities, with experience in coaching and mentoring engineers across multiple disciplines. You'll be a robust, resilient, and #human leader with a strong drive to take ownership of the technical direction of the team and product
  • Previous exposure to working in similar product based environment to Xero, with collaboration being a key part of your typical working model

Responsibilities

  • Continually driving delivery by ensuring engineering paths forward are clear, by identifying and handling blockers early
  • Working in a cross-functional environment, you’ll work with Product, Design & Data peers to design, prototype and implement product features
  • Be involved with the entire lifecycle for what we build, by being involved with ambiguous early requirements, exploring feasibility, refinement, right through to launching into production
  • Identify opportunities in current technology and architecture to recommend solutions, including tech improvements for stability, monitoring, and fault tolerance
  • Provide specialism-agnostic input when engineers in the team need help, offering technical guidance and mentoring to help them grow and be the best version of themselves
  • Keep an ear to the ground in an effort to stay up to date with mobile development technologies; identify and promote opportunities to make use of these technologies within the mobile team

Preferred Qualifications

You’ll be joining a high-impact team, so previous experience in a technical lead role is preferred
