Summary
Join our team as a Legal Resources Fellow and support the Legal Resources team in providing timely and accurate legal information and analysis to member organizations and the broader philanthropic field. This is a full-time, remote summer fellowship (June 16, 2025 β August 29 or September 12, 2025) located in the central DC/Maryland/Virginia area with occasional travel to the DC office. The position offers an hourly rate of $29.25. Responsibilities include researching and responding to information requests, drafting written materials for publications, assisting with educational program preparation, supporting the Government Affairs team, and contributing to cross-functional working groups. The ideal candidate will be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an ABA-accredited J.D. program. Excellent legal research and communication skills are essential.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a J.D. program at an ABA accredited law school
- Excellent legal research skills
- The ability to effectively communicate legal issues verbally and in writing
- Interest in tax exempt organizations and charitable giving
- Ability to actively engage in, demonstrate commitment to the Councilβs Operating Principles and Race, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion values
- Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to listen well, and positively represent the organization and its mission
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to identify and solve problems efficiently and quickly
- Strong project management and analytical skills, maintain productivity, and successfully meet deadlines
- Ability to work effectively and positively both independently and on a team with a range of individuals and working styles, and with people at all organization levels including staff, board members, foundation officers, donors, and vendors
- Proficient skill in Microsoft Office 365 applications
Responsibilities
- Support the Legal Resources team by researching and preparing responses to requests for information from Council members in a variety of subjects, including but not limited to exempt organization tax compliance, governance, charitable giving, and regulatory issues
- Conduct research and draft written materials for inclusion in Council newsletters, webpages, and other publications
- Assist with preparation of materials for webinars, workshops, and other educational programs
- Provide support to Government Affairs team on research and preparation of materials related to legislative proposals and changes in tax policy and regulations
- Contribute to overarching organization goals by participating in cross-functional working groups
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a nonprofit or governmental organization is preferred
- Experience researching the Tax Code and Treasury Regulations preferred
- Experience or ability to use CRM database solutions, helpful but not required
