Summary

Join Pattern Data, an AI-powered platform for mass tort litigation, as a Machine Learning Engineer. You will lead the full data science project lifecycle, from data retrieval to model deployment and monitoring. Design and apply natural language processing (NLP) techniques, particularly valuable if you have experience with medical or legal domain text. Implement and deploy models into high-performance applications, ideally using containerization. Understand the business implications of model development and apply domain knowledge to maximize impact. Embrace an iterative approach to software development and collaborate effectively as a team player. You will work with technologies such as Scala, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, Elasticsearch, AWS, and Python, and tools like PyTorch, SageMaker, and HuggingFace Transformers. The models you create will directly impact how leading US law firms handle mass tort litigation cases.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field OR 2+ years of equivalent work experience in a comparable full-time data science role
  • 2+ years of experience applying NLP techniques and information retrieval, with a strong understanding of modeling and evaluation methods
  • Proficiency in Scala or Python
  • The ability to share samples of professional, educational, or personal projects demonstrating your skills

Responsibilities

  • Lead the full data science project lifecycle, from data retrieval and wrangling to model training, validation, deployment, and monitoring
  • Design and apply a range of natural language processing techniques; experience working with medical or legal domain text is particularly valuable
  • Implement and deploy models into highly performant, real-time applications, ideally using containerization (e.g., Docker)
  • Understand practical business implications when developing models, applying domain knowledge to maximize impact and relevance
  • Embrace an iterative approach to software development, delivering value early and often
  • Jump in across the stack when it makes sense, collaborating as a true team player

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in the medical domain is a plus
