Summary
Join TextNow, the nation's largest free phone service provider, as a Manager for our Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. Lead and inspire a team of SREs, fostering innovation and continuous improvement. Provide technical direction and mentorship, while also contributing hands-on to critical projects. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance system reliability and performance. Manage operational excellence, including on-call rotations and cost optimization strategies. This leadership role requires 5+ years of experience in an operationally focused role and 2+ years of leadership experience in growing and empowering engineers.
Requirements
- Experienced and Adaptable: A highly skilled technical leader with 5+ years of experience in an operationally focused role, ideally within SRE, DevOps, or Infrastructure Engineering. You have a strong background in cloud platforms, automation, observability, and incident response
- People-First Leader: A dedicated mentor with 2+ years of leadership experience focused on growing and empowering engineers. You have a track record of guiding employees through career development, coaching, and mentoring while fostering a culture of ownership and accountability
- Hands-On with Modern Tooling: Proficient in industry-standard tools such as GitHub for version control and collaboration, AWS for cloud infrastructure, Ansible for configuration management, and Terraform for infrastructure as code. You understand how to leverage these or similar tools to build scalable, resilient, and automated systems
- Career Growth Champion: You create clear career progression paths by setting personal development goals, conducting performance evaluations, and collaborating with employees on their objectives. Most importantly, ensure your team is engaged, motivated, and excited about their work
- Effective Communicator: A respectfully candid leader who provides focused, actionable feedback. You excel at fostering a culture of transparency, psychological safety, and continuous learning, ensuring your distributed team feels connected and empowered
Responsibilities
- Lead and Inspire: Guide a team of Site Reliability Engineers (SREs), fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Provide technical direction and ensure best practices in reliability, scalability, and automation
- Mentor and Develop Talent: Provide individualized coaching, feedback, and career growth opportunities for team members. Foster an environment of learning and experimentation while balancing technical excellence with business needs
- Hands-On Contribution: While focusing on leadership, you will also contribute hands-on to critical projects, incident resolution, and system improvements, ensuring your team remains efficient and effective
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, product, and infrastructure teams to align technical vision with product and operational needs. Work closely with stakeholders to drive architectural and design decisions that enhance system reliability and performance
- Operational Excellence: Participate in an on-call rotation and ensure high availability of TextNowβs infrastructure. Implement proactive monitoring, incident response processes, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system uptime and resilience
- Cost Management: Develop and oversee cost optimization strategies for infrastructure, ensuring efficient resource utilization and budget adherence across our organization
