Summary

Join Structural Integrity Associates, Inc. (SIA) as a Mechanical Engineering Consultant and contribute to a dynamic team focused on the engineering analysis, condition assessment, and life prediction of pressure vessels and related equipment. This role involves performing evaluations, stress analyses, and calculations using various methods and software. You will assist with field inspections, mentor entry-level engineers, and prepare technical reports. The position offers the flexibility of remote work or working from the Denver, CO office. Business development and project management support are also key aspects of this role. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in mechanical engineering, relevant experience, and excellent communication skills.

Requirements

  • B. S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline with 5-10 years or more industry related experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, as well as a working knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office

Responsibilities

  • Perform evaluations related to design, life assessment, and root cause failure analysis of stationary equipment such as pressure vessels, piping, and storage tanks
  • Perform thermal heat transfer and structural stress analysis of pressure vessels, piping systems, and other plant structures using both classic and finite element analysis methods
  • Perform simple pressure vessel calculations using commercial software such as PV-Elite and/or Compress
  • Perform calculations for fatigue, corrosion, and crack initiation and growth mechanisms and fracture mechanics concepts employed for serviceability assessment of damaged or flawed components
  • Assist with field inspections of plant equipment and development of risk-based inspection methods
  • Mentor and train entry level engineers in stress analysis and life assessment techniques
  • Mentor and train entry level engineers in application of various codes and standards including ASME & API
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation of written technical reports and presentations
  • Assist in fast paced engineering assessments that are project critical
  • Perform all work in accordance with SI’s Commercial Quality Procedures and with an acute awareness of client requests
  • Develop and expand business opportunities with existing Structural Integrity clients and develop new clients
  • Develop proposals for identified opportunities
  • Learn and implement all applicable standard SI policies and procedures
  • Support project managers in execution of large-scale projects
  • Develop the skills to independently manage small-scale projects
  • Ensure quality and enhance job skills by seeking peer review and appraisal
  • Be financially responsible and adhere to company guidelines with respect to expenses, purchases, and project execution

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge in the analysis of rotating equipment is a plus
  • Knowledge in fluid mechanics is a plus
  • Knowledge in materials, welding, and nondestructive examination techniques is preferred
  • ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel and Piping Code, specifically, Section VIII, Div. 1 through 3 and B31.3 Design & Analysis Experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks CAD software, Abaqus FE software, and general fracture mechanics concepts
  • Piping stress analyses experience using CAESAR II is a plus
  • Computer Programming experience is a plus
  • Professional Engineering license in one or more states is preferred
