Summary

Join MATRIX, a national company providing camp services, as a Night Baker at our MLA Camp in Bathurst Inlet, Nunavut. This fully remote, in-camp position requires a team-oriented individual with attention to detail and experience in high-volume baking and catering. You will be responsible for producing baked goods from scratch, assisting with breakfast service, and maintaining food safety standards. The role demands physical ability, strong communication skills, and the capacity to work independently at night on a rotational schedule. MATRIX offers competitive daily pay, paid travel days, and a 3-weeks-on, 3-weeks-off rotation.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) year working in a similar baking/catering high volume position
  • Organizational and problem-solving abilities
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Basic computer skills
  • Highly motivated, team-oriented individual
  • Ability to work a rotation schedule
  • Ability to lift and move a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Ability to work and maintain a high level of performance during a 10 - 12 hour shift
  • Comfortable working alone at night
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate within the last 5yrs is required

Responsibilities

  • Assist buffet breakfast with “daily special” and eggs to order
  • Produce baked goods and desserts from scratch (cookies, square pies etc.)
  • Produce a variety of bread and buns from scratch
  • Provide input on Breakfast Specials , assisting with menu
  • Practice the “first in first out” rotation procedures to support food inventory control
  • Participate in a Food Safety Plan using advanced HACCP recording methods
  • Execute safe food storage and labeling of potential food allergy items
  • Participate in daily toolbox meetings
  • Support monthly worksite inspections as it relates to the kitchen facilities
  • Performs tasks according to safe work practices and safe job procedures
  • Notify Executive Chef and co-workers of any unsafe practices and unsafe environment
  • Report all incidents and accidents immediately
  • Practice good housekeeping in the work area at all times
  • Support and assist with coaching and training to other kitchen staff attendants
  • Actively participate as a high performing, team member

Preferred Qualifications

  • Culinary Diploma or Red Seal designation, is a strong asset
  • WHMIS
  • Standard First Aid with CPR (16hr course)
  • Previous experience working in remote camp setting is required
