Summary

Join SEGULA Technologies as a Nuclear Safety Consultant and contribute to the safe and sustainable operation of nuclear facilities. This role involves conducting safety assessments, developing documentation, advising on risk mitigation, and collaborating with clients and regulators. The position is remote with occasional site travel and offers a 12-month fixed-term contract. You will mentor junior consultants and stay updated on industry best practices. SEGULA Technologies serves clients in the Nuclear sector, focusing on various stages from design to decommissioning.

Requirements

  • A degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline (e.g., Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering)
  • Proven experience in nuclear safety consultancy or a related field
  • Strong understanding of UK nuclear safety regulations and frameworks (e.g., ONR Safety Assessment Principles, IAEA guidelines)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams

Responsibilities

  • Conduct nuclear safety assessments, including safety case preparation, review, and validation
  • Develop and deliver nuclear safety documentation in line with UK regulatory frameworks
  • Provide technical advice on hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies
  • Engage with clients, stakeholders, and regulators to ensure alignment with safety objectives
  • Support the development and delivery of safety management systems and operational procedures
  • Mentor and guide junior consultants to develop their technical and professional skills
  • Stay updated on industry developments, best practices, and regulatory changes
  • Safety Case Production (e.g. SJP, PCSR, PCmSR, PRS)
  • Modification/ Design Change Submissions (LC/AC 22)
  • Decommissioning (desirable)
  • Functional Safety Assessment
  • Availability, Reliability and Maintainability (ARM) (desirable)
  • System Safety
  • ALARP Assessment
  • Safety & Risk Assessment
  • Deterministic Safety Assessment
  • Probabilistic Safety Assessment (desirable)
  • Nuclear Safety Legislation, Regulation and Policy (desirable)
  • Engineering Substantiation (desirable)
  • HAZOP and other identification studies
  • HAZAN
  • Criticality (desirable)
  • Nuclear Fire (desirable)
