Summary

Join Airbnb's Finance Team as a Principal, Indirect Tax and make a difference! You will conduct comprehensive tax research, analyze tax laws for compliance, collaborate with cross-functional teams, prepare tax documentation, and stay updated on tax legislation. The ideal candidate possesses strong attention to detail, time management skills, and OTA experience. This role requires a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and strong indirect tax knowledge. The position is US-remote eligible, with occasional office work. Compensation includes a competitive salary range of $160,000-$200,000 USD, plus bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Strong knowledge of indirect taxes such as VAT, GST, Sales Tax and Tourist Tax, particularly those relevant to the hotel industry and online travel agents
  • Experience in tax research, legal analysis, and compliance
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex tax concepts clearly
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive research on tax regulations and policies affecting the hotel and hospitality industry, especially the applicability to online travel agents/platforms
  • Analyze and interpret tax laws to ensure compliance and identify opportunities for improvements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide insights and recommendations related to hotels
  • Prepare and review tax-related documentation and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable laws
  • Stay updated on changes in tax legislation and their potential impact on the hotel sector
  • Assist in the development of tax strategies that align with the organization's goals and objectives
  • Support the tax team in audits, inquiries, and correspondence with tax authorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in the OTA or hospitality industry
  • Familiarity with hotel financial statements and operations
  • Membership in a state bar association
