Principal Software Engineer - AI Security

Join BigID, a leading tech startup in data security, compliance, and AI data management, as a Principal Software Engineer on the AI Security team. You will play a crucial role in shaping how organizations adapt and secure their use of AI, working on new initiatives from the ground up. This position requires a hands-on technical leader with deep backend expertise and the ability to influence cross-team architecture and product direction. You will design scalable, secure solutions to complex technical challenges, build backend services and infrastructure, drive architectural and technological decisions, collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and explore new technologies. Requirements

• 10+ years of hands-on experience in backend development, with deep expertise in Java / TypeScript / Python and a strong grasp of software engineering best practices
• A proven track record of leading the design and implementation of complex, scalable, and high-performance systems in production environments
• Architectural experience—you’ve made critical design decisions, defined technical direction, and guided teams through system evolution
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, RESTful APIs, databases, message queues, multi-tenancy, and cloud-native computing
• Experience building and evolving microservices-based architectures , ideally deployed in Kubernetes or similar container orchestration platforms
• A collaborative, communicative approach—you’re comfortable influencing across teams, mentoring engineers, and driving alignment
• A proactive, ownership-driven attitude —you seek out opportunities, solve problems before they escalate, and take initiative to improve systems and processes

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with GenAI implementations , LLM integrations , Vector Databases (e.g., Mongo Atlas Search, Elastic Search), and embedding-based search
• Background in Cybersecurity , data privacy , or compliance-related domains, especially with experience designing secure-by-default systems
• Experience evaluating and integrating third-party APIs , SDKs, or cloud-native AI services (e.g., Azure OpenAI, AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI)
