Principal Software Engineer

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience shipping features and products, with a focus on backend systems at scale with a strong focus on accuracy, quality and security
• 5+ years developing APIs that are leveraged by an external audience
• Passion for building platforms in a rigorous, measurable and scalable way
• Proficiency in a diverse set of programming languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript and Python
• Possess a deep understanding of monorepos, microservices architecture and cloud technologies
• Showcase strong expertise in database design and optimization
• Built and operated real time financial systems at scale
• Experience with infrastructure tooling and containerization and orchestration tools like Kubernetes and extensive experience designing APIs
• Understanding of security best practices in software development

Responsibilities

• Drive engineering innovation and culture across the entire company
• Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies
• Spearhead research initiatives to explore new tools, frameworks, and methodologies
• Guide the approach and execution of a particular team or group of teams
• Drive engineering excellence by inspiring and empowering engineers across Forma
• Dig deep into arbitrarily complex and critical problems and find an appropriate path forward until resolution
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements to architect, design and deliver high-quality solutions
• Conduct thorough architectural reviews and improve quality in every step
• Mentor and coach other engineers, especially staff level engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement
