  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of Esri's Calcite design system to ensure consistency across products
  • Conduct internal research by reviewing products or websites to ensure that designs are accessible to users with disabilities by following best practices and guidelines

Product Design Intern

Join Esri Summer Internship Program

Spend next summer collaborating with designers and engineers to make Esri software products, websites, and Esri’s customer journey more user-friendly! You will have the opportunity to contribute designs that meet user-centered design principles and effectively address Esri’s user needs.

What You’ll Do

Esri interns gain knowledge of the software development lifecycle, GIS concepts, and contribute to real projects, all while being mentored by team members along the way. Our interns work on a wide range of exciting projects. Here are some examples of work you may do:

  • User Interface (UI) Design: You may contribute to designing an intuitive and visually appealing user interface for a specific area within a product.

  • User Experience (UX) Research and Testing: You may assist in conducting user research and usability testing to create user personas used to inform design decisions.

  • Usability Feedback and Quality Assessment: You mayconduct peer reviews, gather usability feedback, and assess the quality of design implementations within a product.

  • Design System Development: You may contribute to the development and maintenance of Esri’s Calcite design system to ensure consistency across products.

  • Accessibility Design: You may conduct internal research by reviewing products or websites to ensure that designs are accessible to users with disabilities by following best practices and guidelines.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a 4-year undergraduate, graduate, or PhD program at a university in the United States, in human-computer interaction, user experience, interaction design, applied social science, or a related field such as digital marketing; undergraduates must be in a junior or senior standing

  • Able to obtain work authorization in the United States in 2025

  • Available to complete a consecutive, onsite 12-week internship beginning in May or June 2025

  • Understanding of UX/UI design principles and methodologies

  • Knowledge of design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, etc.

  • Interviews: Students selected for phone interviews will be notified by email on a rolling basis October 2024–January 31, 2025

  • Internship: 12 weeks beginning in late May or June

The pay range for this internship takes into account education level and previous relevant work experience to include specialized skill sets. Interns who meet minimum qualifications during their internship may also qualify for 401(k) and profit share.

A reasonable estimate of the base pay range is $33.00 - $38.00
