Reinsurance Technical Accountant

Summary

Join Wakam's dynamic Finance team as a Reinsurance Technical Accountant. This key role involves implementing and optimizing a new operational tool, ensuring excellence in reinsurance accounting operations. Responsibilities include processing and reviewing quarterly reinsurance accounting entries, preparing financial statements, monitoring technical accounts, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate possesses a degree in Accounting or Finance, strong insurance/reinsurance knowledge, experience with system implementations, and excellent analytical and communication skills. Fluency in French and English is required. Wakam offers a full-remote work environment and a unique, collaborative culture.

Requirements

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Strong understanding of insurance/reinsurance markets and accounting
• Experience with financial system implementations and process transformation
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities
• Fluency (written & spoken) in French & English
• Advanced Excel skills
• Experience with financial reporting systems and tools

Responsibilities

• Process and review quarterly reinsurance accounting entries
• Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP/STAT requirements
• Monitor and reconcile reinsurance technical accounts
• Prepare and share the Statements of Accounts shared with Reinsurers with insightful commentary on findings
• Play a key role in the implementation and testing of the new operational tool
• Document and optimize reinsurance accounting processes
• Develop and maintain process documentation and internal controls
• Contribute to finance transformation projects, including scoping and testing new functionalities
• Collaborate with internal departments and external partners
• Assist and coordinate with internal and external auditors
• Provide training and guidance on new system functionalities
• Analyze financial results and assess variances against plans
• Prepare detailed reports with insightful commentary on findings
• Identify and implement process improvements
