Job description

About us

The Financial Times is one of the world’s leading news organisations, globally recognised for its authority, integrity and accuracy, with a mission to deliver quality information and services worldwide.

At the FT, curiosity thrives and ambitious thinking is rewarded. Here, you’re given the chance to reach millions, create work that matters and deliver impartial journalism in a polarised world.

In our warm, collaborative culture, you’ll connect with a diverse community of experts who support your growth, career aspirations and wellbeing.

Your future at the FT will be filled with opportunities that challenge and inspire you. With no fixed path, you’ll discover new skills and forge a career that can take you anywhere.

Build a newsworthy career at the FT.

Our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

We believe in the power of unique perspectives and want all voices in our organisation to be heard, respected and valued. A supportive workplace is one where employees feel they can be themselves and operate to their full potential. We are committed to removing barriers for everyone, with a focus on addressing those faced by underrepresented groups.

The role

The desk ensures that the first take on major news stories gets online quickly, either as a standalone article or as a post on the blog. The blog runs 24 hours a day during the week, and covers all the main political, economic and corporate developments, as well as movements in financial markets.

Sometimes when there is a big rolling story, such as a market or geopolitical crisis or a major election, we run a dedicated blog and the breaking news desk will marshal rapid updates from across the FT network.

We are looking for a collaborative reporter and editor who can work well with the rest of the breaking news team and with the FT’s correspondents around the world. The three-person team in New York focuses on stories from the US and other parts of America, but also frequently deals with stories that break late in the day in Europe.

The role would suit an all-rounder, as comfortable on corporate and market stories as on political and economic news, who gets excited by working on the big story whatever that may be. Experience of live blogging would be beneficial, but is not essential; the job can work for an experienced journalist or for someone early in their career.

Key requirements

  • Help to run the daily live blog, including writing headlines and choosing images, graphics and video clips

Please submit your application by the end of the day, Monday 4th November 2024.
