As Marqeta’s  Data Scientist, you will be reporting to the Senior Manager of Data Science, in this role you will be responsible for devising the metrics, reporting, and data models to support Marqeta’s reconciliation efforts, ensuring accurate transaction data and money movement.  The stakeholder teams use our reports to accurately and efficiently reconcile each day, ensuring that Marqeta has correctly instructed funds movement at partner banks.  In this role you should be  able to help with process automation through scripts, and you must possess strong SQL skills.  This role can be performed remotely within Canada.

This role is remote and will be performed in either Vancouver or Toronto metro areas. We’d love for you to join us!

The Impact You’ll Have

• Build data pipelines & reports to support automated internal & external stakeholders’ data needs
• Work with business stakeholders to solve data-related problems by matching business objectives with existing solutions and ad-hoc analytics
• Build automation through Python scripting or other methods
• Support ad-hoc analysis to size potential issues or identify emerging trends that require leadership attention
• Work cross functionally with Product Management, Engineering, Settlement Controls, and Accounting stakeholders to progress against business objectives.

What We’re Looking For

• 2-5 years of relevant experience in data analytics / data science, working with large data sets
• Strong SQL skills, including experience writing ETLs
• Intermediate technical skills (eg. Python, R, or other automation-focused languages)
• Proficiency with dashboard and/or business intelligence tools (eg. Looker, Tableau, etc.)
• Experience with Git, Snowflake, and Airflow are a plus
• Foundation of integrity and strong character to consistently represent Marqeta’s values
• Self-starter who is a consummate team player and is willing to dive into ambiguous problems
• Ability to communicate, prioritize, and deliver.  Highly motivated and able to work in an agile environment.

Nice-To-Haves

• Experience in payments, financial services, and/or fintech industries
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to work with stakeholders across different functions and levels, both internally and with partners.
• Startup/high growth company experience with a proven track record of thriving in high-performing teams and fast-paced environments.

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. Compensation is aligned according to three tiers within the United States:

• National: A baseline tier that applies to most of the geographic territory of the United States.
• Premium: Slightly elevated from the National tier, and oriented toward a narrower set of higher cost-of-living areas, such as Los Angeles CA and Seattle WA
• Premium Plus: A tier for the most expensive working areas, like the San Francisco Bay area and New York City.

When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position, reflected in CAD,  is: 81,000 - 108,000.
