Role Overview

Title: Marketing Designer

We are seeking a versatile and innovative UI/webI/Graphic Designer to join our team at GiveDirectly. In this role, you’ll contribute to the design of our website, web applications, print creatives, and a wide range of other assets to support our mission of driving direct giving.

This role requires a high degree of creativity, attention to detail, and project management skills. You will be tasked with creating engaging, easy-to-navigate designs that meet the needs of our diverse audience, from individual donors to large institutions. As a key player in our communications team, your designs will play a critical role in promoting our brand, driving awareness, and empowering recipients.

Reports to: VP of Product & Growth

Responsibilities:

  • Design Creation: Develop and enhance visual assets for our website, digital campaigns, print materials, and brand collateral. You’ll handle everything from conceptual design to final execution, ensuring a cohesive and impactful presence across all media.
  • Branding & Communication: Create engaging graphics and layouts that capture and promote our brand identity. Design digital and print materials including icons, templates, reports, and presentations, ensuring alignment with brand guidelines.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams to understand design needs, gather feedback, and integrate it into your designs. Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality design solutions.
  • Project Management: Balance multiple projects and deadlines, prioritizing tasks based on project requirements. Produce visually compelling solutions through wireframes, visual designs, and prototypes.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 3+ years in graphic design, marketing design, or a related field with a strong portfolio showcasing a variety of work including web, print, and digital assets.
  • Skills: Proficient in Figma and other design tools. Solid understanding of design principles, visual hierarchy, and user experience. Excellent attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse team.
  • Alignment: Demonstrate alignment with GiveDirectly’s values and core competencies including emotional intelligence, problem-solving, project management, and inclusivity.

This is not a good role for you if:

  • You’re looking to coasting job or struggle in fast-paced environments
  • You don’t want to work on print, web, and product
  • You value perfection over shipping
  • You’re uncomfortable receiving and acting on constructive feedback
  • You avoid taking ownership of your work or making decisions independently
  • You’re sloppy and cut corners because it’s easier
  • You prioritize aesthetics over functionality or user experience

Nice to haves:

  • Experience in social impact or non-profit sectors.
  • Familiarity with web development languages (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and experience working with development teams.
  • Skills in animation or motion graphics.
  • Experience designing for diverse cultural contexts.
  • Portfolio demonstrating a range of design work and process explanations.
  • Experience with user testing and designing based on feedback.

Flexible work options:

This role is available as either a full-time contract or an 80% contract. For the 80% option, you can choose to work:

  • Monday to Friday: 6.4 hours per day
  • Monday to Thursday: 8 hours per day

If you opt for the 80% contract, you will be paid 80% of the salary. In both cases, a minimum of 4 hours of overlap with the NYC timezone is required each day.

Compensation:

At GiveDirectly, we strive to pay our employees generously and equitably. We use an accredited third party salary aggregator to ensure that staff’s total compensation package (base compensation + bonus)  falls within the 75th percentile of similar roles, at similar organizations. We also have a no negotiation policy to ensure we are paying staff equitably across roles.

  • The base salary range for someone based in Africa is approximately $65,000 - $71,000 USD.
  • The base salary range for someone based in Europe is approximately €92,600.00.

The exact salary figure will vary based on the country. We will share an estimated salary benchmark for the specific country you are based in during the hiring process.

Travel Requirement: Must be able to travel ~1-3 times per year to one of our countries of operation for team retreats.

Why work at GiveDirectly?

At GiveDirectly, we work to ensure that you have everything you need to excel in your role and on your team, including:

  • A positive and supportive team with opportunities for advancement
  • A demonstrated commitment to helping all staff develop and grow
