Remote Staff Engineer, User Billing

Summary

Join Stripe's User Billing team as a Staff Engineer and lead the technical direction and strategy for our platform. You will work with engineering managers, senior engineers, and cross-functional partners to design and build key systems. Responsibilities include refining the technical roadmap, driving interoperability across platforms, ensuring high-quality solutions, and leading large cross-functional efforts. You will mentor engineers and raise the bar for technical excellence. This role requires extensive software development experience, experience architecting large-scale systems, and influencing company strategy. Preferred qualifications include experience in financial technology.

Requirements

• 10+ years professional software development experience, including technical leadership of projects across teams or product areas
• Have solid experience in architecting and designing large-scale and complex systems that delivered critical impact to a business
• Experience influencing company strategy at the intersection of business needs and technology (you measure your success in terms of business impact, not lines of code)
• Are skilled in working across engineering teams and other functions in building alignment, driving decision making, and communicating transparently
• Demonstrated experience in upleveling engineering best practices and creating technical efficiencies across teams
• Are effective in giving and receiving constructive feedback to/from peers and team members
• Experience mentoring and investing in the development engineers and peers

Responsibilities

• Refine and extend the technical roadmap for the org, making effective tradeoffs between short- and long-term priorities by taking into consideration business priorities, user experience, and strong technical foundations
• Drive interoperability across platforms in User Billing and integrations across Stripe with product, accounting, sales, finance, and data science teams
• Help drive sound technical decision making within User Billing and align technical roadmaps with other teams across Stripe
• Ensure our platform solutions and billing data are high quality, meet the needs of our internal users, and position us to meet Stripe’s growth
• Lead large cross-team and cross-functional efforts to develop new monetization and commercial capabilities to support Stripe’s product and sales strategies
• Assist with team growth and development by mentoring engineers at all levels
• Raise the bar for technical excellence by leading by example reinforcing high-quality engineering practices

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in financial technology space, particularly in payment processing, accounting, or financial reporting
