About the Role

The VP of Finance is a key strategic partner to the CEO and leadership team, driving financial strategy and ensuring the company’s long-term financial health. This role goes beyond managing numbers—it’s about providing insights and analytics to shape investment strategies, operational plans, and future growth. By overseeing the finance function, the VP will allow the CEO to focus on business innovation while fostering financial accountability across the company.

We are looking for a finance leader who understands the broader vision, can forecast where we’re headed, and ensure our financials are aligned with our goals. This person will operate with a servant leadership mindset, building trust, communicating effectively, and working closely with both their team and leadership to propel the company forward.

Here are the primary components of our VP of Finance role, including but not limited to:

Responsibilities & Success Metrics

  1. Financial Decision-Making & Operational Forecasting

The VP of Finance will own the weekly operational forecast, establishing a comprehensive financial “steering wheel” to guide decision-making and ensure the CEO can sequence business initiatives effectively. The VP will be working with the CEO on a (minimum) weekly basis to ensure that the decisions being made are giving the company the best chance of success with respect to its revenue and profitability targets.

Tactically, the VP’s overarching responsibilities will also include managing both short-term liquidity and long-term financial health through a detailed cash flow forecast, and proactively identifying and addressing potential financial challenges before they arise.

Outside of producing the forecast itself, the VP will be responsible for analyzing variances, conducting root cause analyses, and managing key financial metrics such as Days Sales Outstanding (DSO), contribution margin by product line, and customer acquisition cost analysis.

The role will also support the CEO’s decision-making on hiring, using metrics such as Labor Efficiency Ratios as a guide to ensure full visibility and alignment with company goals.

Moreover, the VP will be accountable for meeting Service Level Agreements (SLAs) on finance deliverables, such as monthly closes (WD5), transaction-level reporting, and departmental budgeting, ensuring reliable financial insights across the organization.

  1. Compensation Strategy Ownership

The VP of Finance will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing the company’s overall compensation strategy, ensuring that compensation models are competitive, aligned with business goals, and structured to attract and retain top talent. The VP will work closely with department heads to develop tailored compensation frameworks, providing transparency and clarity for team members.

  1. Accounting, Tax, and Compliance Management The VP of Finance will collaborate with the accounting team to ensure accurate transaction categorization, maintain an “audit-ready” state for financial records, and oversee AR and AP operations in partnership with the Accounting Manager. They will drive timely monthly close processes (WD5) in alignment with SLAs, while enhancing reporting efficiency and improving aging metrics.

Additionally, the VP of Finance will be directly responsible for coordinating with our accounting firms on tax and compliance matters for both the Canadian and U.S. governments. The VP will be accountable for ensuring that filings are made in a timely and accurate manner, and that proactive risk management is taking place in order to minimize the risk of audits and other compliance-related issues. The right person for this role will have knowledge and experience around Canadian corporate tax matters and U.S. subsidiary entities, and will be able to ensure that our accounting firms are acting in our best interests.

  1. Technology Stack and Automation Upgrades

The VP will lead initiatives to upgrade and automate the company’s tech stack, ensuring that systems for budgeting, forecasting, modeling, and analysis flow efficiently. This includes implementing tools and processes that reduce manual work, optimize workflows, and ensure that automations can be relied upon. The VP will assess the tech stack holistically, recommending new processes or software solutions, particularly in CRM, payment processor, and order-to-cash processes, as these impact the wider company.

  1. Departmental Budgeting and Strategic Leadership: The VP of Finance will develop and oversee department budgets, providing leaders with frameworks to manage financial performance. As part of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), they will drive departmental strategy through effective talent management, a clear vision, financial stewardship, and playbook ownership to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
