Summary

Join Axios, a growth-stage startup dedicated to providing trustworthy news content, as a Breaking News Reporter. This role offers early-career journalists the opportunity to hone their skills by writing for the breaking news desk, reporting and aggregating breaking stories, and occasionally contributing to Axios' newsletters. You will work closely with editors to determine appropriate breaking news stories and collaborate with beat reporters on stories that intersect with various coverage areas. Ideal candidates should possess exceptional news judgment, writing skills, experience in a breaking news environment, and a strong work ethic. Requirements

• Exceptional news and editorial judgment and instincts
• Ability to write clear, concise, accurate copy
• Experience aggregating news stories and working in a breaking news environment
• Outstanding work ethic and comfort in a very fast-paced environment
• A reader of a wide variety of news and the ability to advance the daily news cycle forward with story pitches
• Eager to seek feedback and quick to incorporate feedback to grow and strengthen your skills
• Strong collaboration skills with journalists across all levels

Responsibilities

• Report and aggregate breaking stories that are worthy of our readers' time and occasionally report enterprise stories for Axios' newsletters
• Work closely with our team of editors to determine appropriate breaking news stories to feature on Axios.com
• Collaborate with beat reporters across the Axios newsroom on stories that intersect with our various coverage areas and on items for newsletters

Preferred Qualifications

A working knowledge of U.S. politics and media, as well as an interest in political reporting is encouraged and an asset
