Summary

Join the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft (QI) as a Research Intern and contribute to its Global South program. Conduct quantitative and qualitative research to advance program objectives in geopolitics and geoeconomics. Assist with statistical analysis, including scripting, modeling, and data visualization. Contribute to written outputs, from policy reports to op-eds. Monitor and summarize daily news related to the Global South. Help organize internal and external events. Maintain and manage datasets. Collaborate on advocacy efforts. The internship is paid at $17.95 per hour for a maximum of 19 hours per week, with an initial three-month term and potential extension.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated knowledge of geopolitical or geoeconomic issues affecting one or more regions within the Global South, including Latin America, Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, or the Pacific Islands
  • Current enrollment in โ€” or recent completion of โ€” an undergraduate or graduate program in political science, international relations, economics, or a related discipline in the social sciences or humanities, ideally with coursework or experience in data science
  • Strong quantitative research abilities, with experience using programming languages such as R or Python; proficiency with spreadsheets (e.g., Excel) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau) is a plus
  • Solid writing and analytical skills, with basic familiarity with the AP Stylebook
  • Comfortable working with both Microsoft Office and Google Workspace platforms
  • Experience navigating large international data repositories, such as those maintained by the World Bank or United Nations

Responsibilities

  • Conduct both quantitative and qualitative research to advance the Global South programโ€™s objectives in geopolitics and geoeconomics, in line with a U.S. foreign policy grounded in Restraint
  • Assist program staff with statistical analysis, including scripting, modeling, data extraction, mapping, and interpretation, as well as literature reviews and editing of research publications
  • Contribute to a range of written outputs, from in-depth policy reports to rapid response analysis and op-eds
  • Monitor and summarize daily news related to the Global South in a concise daily brief for program staff
  • Help organize and facilitate internal and external events, including roundtables and briefings
  • Maintain and manage datasets and other information critical to the Global South programโ€™s work
  • Collaborate on advocacy efforts related to the programโ€™s goals and policy messaging

Proficiency in Spanish

Benefits

  • $7.25 - $17.95 an hour
  • The pay for this position is $17.95 per hour and is for a maximum of 19 hours per week
  • The initial term of the internship is three months but can be extended based on performance
