Summary
Join Newsela as an Accounting Manager and elevate our revenue recognition processes post-ASC 606 adoption. Develop scalable accounting operations for month-end close activities, owning critical revenue processes and building a foundation for improved quality and internal controls. Collaborate with the Finance team and cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, Product, and People teams. Your work will support the company's growth and expansion of its educational content reach. This role offers the opportunity to supervise a team and contribute to high-impact financial reporting and accounting operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business with an emphasis in Accounting
- 5+ years of accounting experience
- 1-2 years of hands-on experience with ASC 606, revenue reviews, Netsuite billing and ARM
- Experience managing others to ensure transactional processing is accurate and complete
- Well-versed in revenue contracts review, documentation of revenue checklists, and providing support for financial statement audits
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end revenue close processes (including AR, deferred revenue, reserves and adjustments)
- Collaborate with internal and external business partners, performing periodic and ad-hoc revenue reporting and analysis, and ensuring operation of key internal controls
- Participate in special projects when revenue recognition expertise is needed, providing both technical and/or operational knowledge
- Interact with external auditors on technical accounting issues and assist in the support of the annual audit
- Prepare technical accounting analysis related to new transactions and new or evolving products
- Work closely with our external auditors on technical accounting matters and bring any accounting analysis to closure in a timely manner
- Respond to technical accounting inquiries from auditors and communicate technical accounting matters and concepts to all levels within the organization
- Assist in the assessment and review of financial controls established over technical accounting areas
- Supervise at least one direct report and potentially more in the future
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Salesforce
- Ability to identify and prioritize issues that impact revenue reporting, investigate, evaluate and come up with alternate solutions, present pros/cons to management for decision and help to execute through to the resolution

- Base compensation: $105,000 - $120,000. Total compensation for this role also includes incentive stock options and benefits. This compensation range may be adjusted based on actual experience
