Summary
Arcadia Science is hiring a Science Editing Intern to help improve and release research 'pubs' on their platform. The intern will work directly with scientists, edit drafts for clarity and accuracy, maintain publishing standards, and provide feedback on figures. A PhD in the life sciences is preferred but not required. The position is full-time, on-site at the Berkeley, California headquarters, and offers benefits.
Requirements
You should have enough scientific experience to understand Arcadia's research, which covers a broad range of topics and scientific fields; PhD in the life sciences is preferred
Responsibilities
- Work directly with scientists to bring their pubs up to Arcadia's high standards, helping them plan out their drafts and providing high-level feedback on structure and organization
- Copyedit to ensure grammatical accuracy and adherence to house style
- Edit for clarity while taking care to ensure scientific accuracy, checking with scientist(s) for more background as needed
- Maintain a firm grasp of Arcadia's publishing experiment and serve as a creative thought partner in ideating and iterating on their model
- Provide feedback on figures, working with the Publishing Team to ensure that the chosen format is the best way to present the data to readers
- Flag issues such as a lack of replicates, claims not supported by data, missing information that could affect reproducibility, IP concerns, etc
