Senior Backend Engineer

Requirements

• Have commercial experience developing complex, distributed applications writing services in Java
• Have disciplined coding practices, and experience with code reviews and pull requests. Model best practices to your peers
• Have strong communication and team collaboration skills, both written and verbal. A Canva engineer strives to understand the exact problem before jumping into writing code

Responsibilities

• Design and implement a scalable backend solution that enables rapid experimentation and new features
• Own the full lifecycle of features, from design docs and stakeholder alignment through implementation, testing, and maintenance
• Collaborate with designers and product managers to define and scope new features, functionality, and technical requirements
• Model initiative and ownership in achieving goals, improving processes and solutions
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to the team’s domain as and when they arise, and be part of the team’s rostered on-call rotation
• Stay updated on industry trends and best practices to innovate and improve the domain owned by the team

Preferred Qualifications

Have commercial experience with protocol buffers
