Senior Backend Engineer

Summary

Join a Series B company revolutionizing air freight and logistics. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will contribute to feature designs, architectural decisions, and code quality. You will work with technologies like Python, Flask, Javascript, Vue.js, PostgreSQL, and Redis in a Kubernetes environment. The role involves continuous deployment and leveraging LLMs for efficiency. You will collaborate closely with a team, providing and receiving feedback. The company offers remote work from almost anywhere in Europe and South Africa, with regular in-person meetings.

Requirements

• Have at least 5 years of relevant experience
• Have a strong foundation in Python
• Have a strong knowledge of SQL
• Understand the workings of web applications
• Be a open, fun, and low-ego team player

Responsibilities

• Contribute to feature designs and architectural decisions
• Ensure the quality of the work
• Dive deep into technical complexities, refining and writing tickets
• Work with technologies like Python 3, Flask, Javascript, Vue.js, PostgreSQL, and Redis
• Run a service-oriented architecture with synchronous gRPC endpoints and Celery for asynchronous workloads
• Aim to have continuous deployment pipelines and code that goes into production extremely fast
• Constantly expanding our automated tests and refining log messages, metrics, distributed tracing, and alerts to move closer to the desired level of automation and observability
• Actively exploring how LLMs are changing our day-to-day work as software engineers
• Delegate tedious, repetitive work to an LLM and find more utility through tools like Cursor or Claude Code to have more focus on all the things that require a human touch
• Ask “why?” a lot, challenge assumptions, and bring our unique perspective as software engineers to the table
• Build and extend self-service tools for the different roles in the organization
• Provide hands-on support to ensure our users have an awesome experience
• Share knowledge, offer constructive feedback, uplift colleagues, and step up with leadership qualities when the team requires it most
• Contribute to and evolve our documentation
• Share their insights, experiences, and novel ideas with the team
• Assist fellow engineers during onboarding and foster a collaborative learning environment
