Senior Backend Engineer

Summary

Join Pleo's Backend Core team as a Senior Backend Engineer and build first-class tooling, libraries, and paved paths to support Pleo's engineering community. You will design, develop, and shape scalable, robust, distributed products, collaborating with teams across the organization. This role offers the opportunity to grow professionally, broaden and deepen your skills, and contribute to exciting projects as Pleo expands its product and service offerings. You will lead initiatives, collaborate with cross-functional teams, analyze and break down complexity, participate in code reviews, and mentor other engineers. The ideal candidate possesses expertise in server-side languages (especially Kotlin), distributed systems, microservices, and cloud environments. Requirements

• Expertise in server-side languages, especially Kotlin, and experience with distributed systems, microservices, and cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes)
• Proficiency with relational databases like PostgreSQL, testing frameworks (e.g., JUnit, Testcontainers), and observability tools like Grafana
• Strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset to mentor and upskill your teammates
• A proven ability to lead projects, manage ambiguity, and maintain high standards for code quality and reliability
• A passion for innovation and driving impactful solutions within a fast-paced scale-up environment

Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to design, build, and ship scalable services and tooling that greatly increase developer productivity and application quality
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions across Pleo
• Analyze and break down complexity to ensure scalability, maintainability, and testability
• Participate in code reviews, post-mortems, and provide mentorship to other engineers
• Proactively address technical debt and guide the team through technical challenges and migrations
