Senior Cyber Range Engineer

Summary

Join SimSpace as a Senior Cyber Range Engineer and design, implement, and maintain cloud-based cyber range architectures. You will develop automation frameworks, create emulated cloud services, and collaborate with content developers. This role requires extensive experience with cloud infrastructure (Azure and/or AWS), IaC tools, containerization, and networking. Requirements

• 5+ years experience with cloud infrastructure deployment and management in Azure or AWS. Knowledge of both is highly desired
• For Azure: Experience with ARM templates, Azure CLI, managed identities, virtual networks, and Azure Automation
• For AWS: Experience with CloudFormation, AWS CLI, IAM roles, VPC architecture, and AWS Systems Manager
• Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code tools, including Terraform and Ansible
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and virtual machine deployment at scale
• Proficient networking knowledge including: Virtual networking concepts (VPCs, VNets, subnets, routing)
• Network security (firewalls, security groups, NACLs)
• VPN and direct connectivity solutions
• Knowledge of cloud cost management and resource optimization techniques
• Experience with monitoring and logging solutions (CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, Prometheus, etc.)
• Familiarity with enterprise IT architectures and common business applications
• Knowledge of security concepts and best practices for isolated environments
• Experience with version control systems (Git) and CI/CD pipelines
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex infrastructure issues
• Exemplary documentation and technical communication abilities
• U.S. citizenship as required by our existing U.S. Government contracts

Responsibilities

• Design and implement cloud-based cyber range architectures that support multiple concurrent training scenarios and user sessions
• Develop automation frameworks for rapid deployment, teardown, and reset of range environments using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles
• Create emulated cloud services and resources when direct cloud integration isn't feasible or cost-effective
• Maintain security controls and network isolation to prevent range escape or resource abuse
• Collaborate with content developers to translate training requirements into technical specifications
• Develop and maintain documentation for range architectures, deployment procedures, and troubleshooting guides
