Summary

Join Calendly's Engineering team as a Senior Data Reliability Engineer and leverage your expertise in database administration, communication, and automation to support our engineering organization. You will own and operate Calendly's database infrastructure, providing expertise in modeling, queries, instrumentation, operation, and optimization. Collaborate with other teams to ensure their success with relational and non-relational database systems. Develop high-quality, low-cost tools to enhance database infrastructure utilization. A typical day involves enhancing data system reliability and observability across various technologies, building automation and tooling, collaborating with development teams, and ensuring system uptime and recovery. This role requires deep experience in production database administration, especially PostgreSQL, and expertise in cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and observability best practices. You will also build and maintain tools for internal development teams and lead strategic projects.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of cloud infrastructure (especially GCP), distributed systems, observability and reliability best practices
  • Deep experience administering production databases, especially PostgreSQL
  • Hands-on experience in Helm, Kubernetes workloads, and custom K8s operators to build and support self-service database infrastructure and tooling
  • Excellent communicator with eagerness to collaborate, exchange knowledge, and apply new skills
  • Experience building and maintaining tools for internal development teams
  • Keen eye for identifying and implementing database optimizations
  • Experience successfully leading the execution of strategic projects
  • Authorized to work lawfully in the United States of America as Calendly does not engage in immigration sponsorship at this time

Responsibilities

  • Enhance the reliability and observability of our data systems, working in multiple technologies such as Google Cloud Platform, PostgreSQL, PgBouncer, Redis, and Datadog
  • Building automation and tooling, and providing expertise, to support our developers and their fleet of PostgreSQL databases and Redis instances
  • Collaborating with development teams to help them reach their goals and spread best practices throughout the engineering organization
  • Ensuring system uptime and playing a critical role in system recovery
