Summary
Join CARTO's Data Science team as a Senior Data Scientist and contribute to the development of new algorithms and derivative datasets leveraging spatial data for accurate insights and predictions. You will build data science models, design and run experiments using CARTO's Data Observatory, participate in all phases of the Data Science product lifecycle, and lead research activities for new Spatial Data Science methods. Collaborate with engineering and product leaders, communicate findings to clients, and present your work internally and at conferences. The position is remote-friendly, preferably in the Central European Time zone, with options to work from Madrid or Seville offices. Requirements
- Education in relevant fields and +5 years of experience working in Data Science, with substantial exposure to diverse use cases, techniques and technologies
- Strong statistical background and experience applying data science techniques in production, demonstrating measurable impact and scalability
- Advanced proficiency in coding skills relevant to Data Science, especially in SQL and Python. A proven ability to rapidly learn new technologies when required
- Proven track record working with clients and other stakeholders to translate business problems into Data Science workflows
- Experience working with geospatial data
- Hands-on experience working with Google Cloud, AWS and/or Azure ecosystems, and platforms like Google BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, AWS Redshift, etc
- Experience applying Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI techniques to real-world data challenges
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain both technical and business concepts. Presentation skills are essential
- Fluency in English
Responsibilities
- Build data science models, developing creative solutions to solve our customers' more complex business problems (statistical and machine learning predictive models, with a focus on spatial models, multivariate analysis, hypothesis testing, probability theory and its applications, etc.)
- Design and run novel data science experiments leveraging CARTOโs Data Observatory and the capabilities of the most advanced technologies to further develop CARTOโs Analytics Toolbox and CARTO Workflows
- Participate in all phases of the Data Science product lifecycle (exploratory data analysis, model development, model productionizing, rollout, and evaluation)
- Lead research activities for new Spatial Data Science methods that drive activity on our platform, scale our business, and enhance the user experience
- Collaborate with engineering and product leaders, to frame and tackle a problem, both technically and within a business context
- Communicate rationale and findings from analyses to facilitate operational decisions for our clients
- Present your work both to internal decision makers, and at conferences, meetups and leading workshops around spatial data science
- Keep up to date on new developments from industry and academia and presenting and educating the wider company at CARTO
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with working with GIS software: CARTO, QGIS, ArcGIS, Kepler.gl , etc
- Experience developing production-quality data products using the results of quantitative research
