Summary

Join Trella Health as their first Senior Database Administrator and play a critical role in building the foundation for their future data strategy. This remote-first position, with a preference for candidates near regional hubs, will involve owning the full lifecycle of database administration for mission-critical systems. You will lead performance tuning, implement data security controls, identify database requirements for applications, and optimize database performance and efficiency. The role also includes supporting users, executing regular maintenance tasks, guiding long-term data architecture, and designing disaster recovery plans. This position requires 7+ years of experience in database administration and expertise in various database management systems.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in database administration or in a similar role
  • Experience in database backup, disaster recovery planning, performance optimization, and data security
  • Knowledge of database management systems such as MySQL, MariaDB and Postgres. Experience with Snowflake is strongly preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to provide quick solutions to issues
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills to work in a team environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent years of experience

Responsibilities

  • Own the full lifecycle of database administration for mission-critical systems: designing, installing, configuring, and maintaining database systems in Snowflake and Postgres, including monitoring, tuning, and troubleshooting issues
  • Lead performance tuning, index optimization, and capacity planning initiatives
  • Provide a seamless flow of information by keeping the database running smoothly
  • Design and implement data security and integrity controls, including implementation of access controls, backups, and recovery plans
  • Identify and implement database requirements for new or existing applications by working collaboratively with other teams
  • Optimize database performance and efficiency by evaluating and recommending new database technologies
  • Support users and developers by resolving data-related technical issues and troubleshooting queries by guiding them with best practices
  • Execute regular database maintenance tasks, including database defragmentation, backups, and database replication
  • Help guide long-term data architecture, governance, and compliance best practices
  • Design and execute disaster recovery plans and procedures to ensure database availability during system outage
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including data standards, procedures, and definitions to scale institutional knowledge

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in cloud database technologies, such as Amazon RDS is preferred
  • Knowledge of AWS Lake Formation is a plus
