Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience leading technical teams and projects in the safety space
  • Experience managing an organization of 30+ software engineers
  • Excellent people management skills with demonstrated experience developing senior manager and director level talent at various phases of their careers
  • Technical experience with content moderation and anti-spam within a consumer platform at scale
  • A high degree of personal integrity and a desire to put the needs of customers, users and communities first
  • Proficiency in programming languages and frameworks such as Python and Go
  • Solid understanding of software engineering principles and practices, including version control, testing, and deployment
  • Demonstrated ability to drive and execute complex technical projects from inception to deployment
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address technical challenges effectively
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, machine learning experts, data scientists, and threat analysts to tackle abuse and content manipulation at scale
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing team culture that encourages innovation and accountability
  • Develop team members through mentorship, career development, and strategic leadership opportunities
  • Define and drive the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Safety Technology, ensuring alignment with Reddit’s values and our unique approach to content moderation
  • Lead the integration of Safety ML, Threat Detection, and Safety Engineering functions to deliver scalable, impactful solutions
  • Stay ahead of emerging safety challenges, including generative AI safety, misinformation, and abuse prevention
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of tools and systems for abuse detection, content moderation, and threat mitigation
  • Develop and scale AI and machine learning models to proactively address safety risks across the platform
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate safety technology into Reddit’s products and operations seamlessly
  • Collaborate with Safety Product, Trust & Safety, Legal, and other teams to align priorities and address regulatory compliance
  • Advocate for safety initiatives at the executive level and ensure proper resource allocation for critical projects
  • Establish metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of safety initiatives and communicate progress to key stakeholders
  • Drive a data-driven approach to decision-making and iterate on solutions based on impact and user feedback
