Senior Engineering Manager

Finalis
Summary
Join Finalis as a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers, acting as a technical mentor and systems architect. This hybrid role blends deep engineering expertise with team building and strategic development, influencing the company's data-driven innovation. You will orchestrate momentum, unlock team autonomy, and drive predictability while contributing to the AI-powered platform's architecture. This role is key to the engineering leadership team's transition, building trust, decision-making speed, and collective ownership. Your success will enable senior leaders to focus on strategic initiatives. The position involves leading engineering execution, architecting for scale and impact, operationalizing team performance, driving strategic collaboration, and growing and mentoring engineers.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including backend and full-stack systems
- 5+ years in engineering management roles, preferably in high-growth SaaS or data-rich environments
- Experience leading teams that build reliable, secure, and scalable systems using Python, TypeScript, Next.js, and AWS. Or comparable stacks that you are more than eager to compare and contrast their pros and cons
- Comfort working across streaming and batch ETL systems, event queues (e.g. RabbitMQ, SQS), and data-centric infrastructure
- Strong architectural instincts; able to identify when to refactor, rewrite, or stabilize
- Adept at managing trade-offs between speed and quality, complexity and flexibility
- Deep understanding of system design, CI/CD, API lifecycle management, and observability best practices
- You think and plan beyond the current sprint—architecting technical foundations that align with 12–18 month business goals
- You can partner on company-level strategy, especially around data architecture, engineering org structure, and team predictability
- You actively identify opportunities to reduce risk, enhance velocity, or increase system clarity before they become urgent
- You lead with context. You share what you know early and often to reduce ambiguity and surface opportunities for alignment
- You workshop solutions asynchronously and synchronously with peers to drive clarity and create momentum
- You’re confident presenting technical direction to stakeholders while remaining open to feedback and iteration
Responsibilities
- Drive the full software development lifecycle for high-impact, roadmap-aligned features
- Translate complex product and system requirements into actionable, iterative engineering plans
- Actively contribute code and architectural guidance while shaping team-wide best practices
- Guide the team through ambiguity, shifting priorities, and new technical frontiers with calm and confidence
- Own backend and service-level architecture decisions, ensuring extensibility, resiliency, and clear boundaries
- Partner with our Data team and CTO to evolve our platform into a source of structured, high-quality data for AI model training, analysis, and operational intelligence
- Improve observability, testability, and system health through clear design patterns and modern infrastructure practices
- Bring clarity and rhythm to team execution. Identify blockers early and work cross-functionally to resolve them
- Refine rituals (stand-ups, sprint planning, retros) to increase throughput while energizing the team
- Proactively communicate project status, risks, and outcomes, ensuring zero ambiguity across functions
- Help the team strike the right balance between heroic effort and long-term sustainability
- Serve as the engineering counterpart to Product and Data leads—shaping roadmaps based on effort, feasibility, and strategic impact
- Work backwards from business goals to identify the technical systems and engineering investments that unlock scale
- Lead by influence across engineering—sharing reusable patterns, unblocking peers, and improving predictability company-wide
- Provide technical mentorship and career coaching that elevates individual performance and collective velocity
- Create space for autonomy while holding the bar high for clarity, accountability, and quality
- Model the behavior of a strong “first team” player—prioritizing transparency, proactivity, and shared learning among fellow managers
