Requirements

  • ACA or ACCA qualified with 2-3 years of post-qualification experience, ideally gained at a Big 4 accounting firm
  • Strong technical expertise in financial accounting, audit, and UK GAAP, acquired through experience in a top-tier firm
  • Proven experience in a financial accounting role, with a deep understanding of financial reporting and internal controls
  • Experience managing month-end close, preparing management accounts, and working with complex financial data
  • Advanced working knowledge of accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage) and Excel, with a keen eye for detail
  • Experience with VAT returns, corporation tax filings, and compliance with UK tax laws
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present financial data to non-financial stakeholders and senior management
  • Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable working remotely, with the ability to manage your time effectively and collaborate across different time zones
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence senior stakeholders in a small to medium-sized business

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly management accounts, financial statements, and supporting schedules
  • Ensure all financial records comply with UK accounting standards (UK GAAP) and tax laws
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets, financial forecasts, and cash flow management
  • Provide analysis and insights on variances and financial performance
  • Maintain the integrity of the company’s financial systems, ensuring timely and accurate reconciliations of all balance sheet accounts
  • Lead and manage the month-end close process, ensuring all transactions are properly recorded, accruals are made, and the financial position is accurately reflected
  • Prepare and submit VAT returns and other tax filings
  • Assist in the preparation of corporation tax returns, liaising with external auditors and tax advisors as necessary
  • Monitor and manage company cash flow, ensuring there is sufficient liquidity for operations while optimizing cash balances
  • Help develop and maintain robust internal control procedures to mitigate financial risks and safeguard assets
  • Support the Group Financial Controller in the preparation of financial reports for stakeholders, investors, and external parties
  • Provide mentorship and support to junior finance staff
  • Assist with the preparation for annual audits and liaise with external auditors and advisers as needed
  • Identify and implement improvements in financial processes, tools, and systems to increase efficiency and scalability as the company grows

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with financial systems implementation, process improvements, or business transformations
  • Strong project management skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with SaaS business models and software revenue recognition principles
  • Experience working with investors or external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of international accounting standards and multi-currency accounting
