Requirements

• 10+ years in software development, 5+ in API development/management
• 5+ years managing engineering teams with a strong mentoring record
• Expertise in RESTful APIs, security, versioning, and best practices
• Proven experience in scalable architecture and cloud-based systems
• Strong Agile experience and stakeholder communication skills
• Passion for leadership and mentoring
• Eligibility to work in Bulgaria long-term

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a high-performing team of engineers responsible for building and maintaining Smartsheet’s public APIs
• Define and drive API strategy aligned with customer needs and business goals
• Architect and design scalable, secure, high-performance API services
• Foster collaboration across engineering teams to improve integration experiences
• Develop best practices for API development and ensure platform robustness
• Own the API lifecycle from design to ongoing maintenance and uptime
• Mentor engineers and build a strong, cohesive, and high-performing team
• Report progress of API initiatives to senior leadership
• Manage on-call rotations for critical API services
• Understand API infrastructure and team projects, meet stakeholders
• Optimize team performance and introduce best practices
• Deliver high-impact API features with measurable value
• Position Smartsheet as a leader in the API ecosystem
