Senior Platform Engineer, Data Reliability

Summary

Join SmarterDx as a Senior Platform Engineer and contribute to the design and capabilities of our development platform. You will build, deploy, maintain, and monitor AWS infrastructure using Terraform, build capabilities using Kubernetes, and ensure data security. Responsibilities include working on database reliability and performance, providing database expertise to engineering teams, and automating database infrastructure. This fully remote US-based role requires 7-10+ years of development experience, expertise with Terraform and Kubernetes, and experience with Go and Python. The ideal candidate will also have experience running PostgreSQL in large production environments and experience with messaging/event streaming platforms.

Requirements

• 7-10+ years of development experience, with a focus on backend and cloud-based solutions
• 2+ years of hands-on production work with cloud infrastructure, containers, monitoring, and alerting
• 3+ years of experience running PostgreSQL in large production environments
• Expertise with Terraform and Kubernetes
• Experience with Go and Python, especially using Kubernetes APIs
• Experience with NATs, Kafka, or other similar messaging/event streaming platforms
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design and capabilities of the SmarterDx development platform
• Build, deploy, maintain, and monitor common AWS infrastructure with Terraform
• Build capabilities using Kubernetes custom controllers in Go and deploy common libraries in Python and Typescript to utilize common data, observability, and monitoring systems
• Ensure the security of our clients’ data by building secure patterns into the fabric of the system in close collaboration with Security Engineering
• Work on database reliability and performance aspects for SmarterDx
• Analyze solutions and implement best practices for our main PostgreSQL database cluster and its components
• Provide database expertise to engineering teams (for example through reviews of database migrations, queries and performance optimizations)
• Work on automation of database infrastructure and help engineering succeed by providing self-service tools

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ETL/ELT processes and tools like AirFlow and dbt
• Experience with Snowflake or similar data warehouses
• Prior experience in the healthcare sector
