Summary
Join Khan Academy Kids as a Senior Product Designer and contribute to the creation of engaging learning experiences for young children. This 12-month contract position offers a chance to work on various stages of design projects, from conceptualization to implementation. You will translate user research insights into designs for mobile and web products, collaborate with a talented team, and potentially transition to a full-time role. The ideal candidate possesses 6+ years of relevant experience, proficiency in design software, and a passion for early childhood education. A portfolio showcasing your digital product design experience is required for application.
Requirements
- 6+ years of relevant experience on an in-house product design team
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Figma
- Proficiency in interaction design, prototyping, and information architecture, with outstanding visual design and UI/UX chops
- Experience designing mobile and web consumer products at scale
- Experience driving your own design process, starting with problem definition and ending with delivering solutions
- Adaptability and the ability to balance multiple design projects at various stages in a changing environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for technical and non-technical collaborators
Responsibilities
- Contribute to various stages of design projects from conceptualization through implementation and create production-ready artwork
- Translate insights from user research into wireframes, interactive prototypes, and high-fidelity visual designs for mobile and web products
- Float between crafting visuals and joyful user experiences for young children, parents, and teachers audiences
- Participate in the creation and maintenance of shared design patterns and systems
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, artists, animators, and developers to shape and refine product features
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience designing for e-learning/edtech products, specifically reports for educators, schools and district administrators
- Prior experience conducting user research (focus groups, interviews, usability testing, etc.)
- Web development skills: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Illustration, animation, and/or video production skills
- Passion for early childhood education and childrenβs media and an attentiveness to what kids and families find fun and efficacious

Benefits
- This is a contract role of 40 hours/week for 12 months at $80/hr
- Depending on business need, there is potential for this role to convert to a full-time position down the line
