Summary

Join Wealthsimple's Privacy Engineering team, a specialized group focused on designing and implementing secure data access controls. You will build and enhance the data governance tech stack, design and implement least privilege access controls, develop data masking and anonymization solutions, and build alerting systems for unusual data access patterns. The role also involves building automated tools for data lifecycle management, partnering with other teams to ensure privacy by design, and enabling responsible data use. You'll leverage your experience with technologies like Typescript, React, AWS, and data security principles. Requirements

• Experience with some of our key technologies:  Typescript, React, React Native, GraphQL, Python and Ruby on Rails
• Experience building in the cloud like AWS and with things like S3, Kafka, EKS, Redshift, Snowflake
• Understanding of data exposure risks and applying data security principals to decrease risk exposure
• Understanding of data classification, identification  and discovery systems like data flow mapping and lineage tools
• Working with data protection frameworks and regulations
• A security led mindset where you seek to build and ship secure solutions
• Flexibility and creativity: you enjoy coming up with novel ways to solve problems and work through constraints
• Value open communication and working on an exceptionally transparent, debate-and-feedback-driven team
• Experience in and a desire to mentor fellow developers through pairing, code review, and in-the-moment feedback
• Experience with Access control systems and identity management
• Experience with security tooling like DLP controls

Responsibilities

• Build and elevate the data governance tech stack in the org by integration to critical assets
• Design and implement technical controls for least privilege access to data
• Develop data masking and anonymization solutions to protect PII
• Help build alerting systems to detect and respond to unusual data access patterns
• Build and oversee automated tools for data lifecycle management and retention
• Partner with security, compliance, privacy and product teams to ensure privacy by design
• Enable responsible data use that balances innovation with privacy protection
