Senior Software Engineer

Summary

Join Canva's Cloud FinOps team and help redefine how the world experiences design. Based in Sydney with options for remote work in other Australian locations, this role focuses on feature development, product development, cost optimization in cloud architecture, and data platform maintenance. You will champion FinOps culture, working with engineering teams to improve cloud architecture and cost efficiency. The ideal candidate possesses strong Golang or Python skills, deep computer engineering knowledge, AWS experience, and proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC). Requirements

• Proficiency in Golang or Python; willingness to upskill in either
• Deep knowledge and understanding of Computer Engineering fundamentals and first principles
• Strong knowledge of AWS services such as EKS, EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, S3, or equivalent Cloud provider experience
• Experience designing, implementing, and managing scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud architectures
• Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code (experience with Terraform preferred, but other IaC tools acceptable)
• Experience owning, tracking, and delivering goals, working both independently and in teams
• Ability to guide and mentor other team members and improve collaboration, learning, and idea sharing
• Curiosity and enjoyment of discovering new areas and understanding areas outside of expertise; solving problems with technical ideas and solutions
• Excitement about designing solutions at scale, pragmatically planning for maximum value with low cost, and working with many collaborators

Responsibilities

• Develop new features, functionality, and optimizations
• Design, build, and lead discussions around team products
• Support and answer questions from product teams and company leaders
• Work with Canva’s engineering teams to improve their cloud architecture from a cost optimization perspective
• Get hands-on with the FinOps data platform, tuning it and keeping it running smoothly
• Champion the FinOps culture at Canva and empower others to join in
